Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph Ti49: Celebrating 49 Years of Sporty Chic

Hold onto your monocles, watch enthusiasts! Girard-Perregaux has done it again, unveiling a shiny new iteration of their legendary Laureato. Enter the Laureato Chronograph Ti49, the freshest face in haute horlogerie, crafted with the uber-cool Grade 5 titanium. And guess what? This is the first time this fancy alloy has graced the Laureato's presence, marking a milestone that's practically begging for a celebratory wrist party.

Let’s rewind to 1975. Bell bottoms were in vogue, disco was grooving, and Girard-Perregaux was busy revolutionising the watch game with the Laureato. Fast forward 49 years, and they're still at it, only this time, they've gone titanium – Grade 5, to be precise. This metal marvel isn’t just strong; it's lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and hypoallergenic. Basically, it’s like the superhero of metals minus the cape.

Let’s get geeky for a moment. Grade 5 titanium is the rockstar of alloys, comprising 90% titanium, 6% aluminium, and 4% vanadium. It’s strong, stiff, and non-magnetic – a watchmaker's dream. Plus, it polishes up nicely, making it perfect for those who appreciate a bit of bling without the weight of traditional metals.

Originally, the series got its chic Italian nickname, 'Laureato,' meaning 'graduate,' thanks to its precision and success. The name stuck as a laurel crown on a laureate’s head, and what can radiate precision more than a chrono?

The Ti49 flaunts a 42mm case with its iconic octagonal bezel atop a circular plinth on a tonneau-shaped body. Thanks to its many facets and angles, it’s a design that dances with light. The warm hue of Grade 5 titanium adds a cosy touch, while contrasting brushed and polished finishes give it a sleek, modern edge.

The grey dial, adorned with a Clous de Paris pattern, is a monochromatic masterpiece. Baton-style hour and minute hands, along with matching indexes, are grey PVD-treated and glow white in the dark. Three snailed counters keep track of minutes, hours, and seconds, while a date display nestled between 4 and 5 o’clock ensures you never lose track of the calendar.

Inside the Ti49 ticks the manufacture calibre GP03300, a self-winding movement boasting 419 components. This mechanical marvel features intricate decorations like Côtes de Genève, circular graining, and blued steel screws – all meticulously crafted by Girard-Perregaux’s artisans. Whether you're a seasoned collector or a newbie to the watch world, this titanium titan is sure to impress. So, what are you waiting for? Adding a little Girard-Perregaux sparkle to your wrist is always a good idea.
