Jeddah Tower Construction Officially Resumes

Construction has resumed on the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia, a project that aims to dethrone Dubai's Burj Khalifa as the world's tallest building. With a planned height exceeding 1,000 metres, the Jeddah Tower will set a new global record once completed, eclipsing the Burj Khalifa’s 828 metres.

The ambitious development has faced years of delays, but progress is now back on track. Currently, 63 storeys of the 157-storey structure have been completed, and the project is slated for finalization in the first half of 2028. The tower, designed by Adrian Smith – the same architect behind the Burj Khalifa – will include luxury residences, commercial spaces, a Four Seasons hotel, and an observation deck offering sweeping views of Jeddah and the Red Sea.

Located within the Jeddah Economic City project, the tower is part of a larger 1.3 million square metre development that will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, including high-speed internet, water, and flood drainage systems. With an estimated budget of Dhs7 billion, the remaining funds will come from internal financing and banking facilities.

For now, the Burj Khalifa remains the tallest building in the world, but its reign will likely come to an end as the Jeddah Tower approaches completion, marking a new chapter in the race for architectural supremacy.
