Originally scheduled to pause in May, the fountain will now close earlier than planned. While a previous announcement suggested the renovation would take around five months, it remains unclear whether the early shutdown will extend the timeline.
The Dubai Fountain has long been a centrepiece of Downtown Dubai, drawing thousands of visitors daily to its performances on Burj Lake, just outside Dubai Mall and at the foot of Burj Khalifa. Shows run every 30 minutes in the evening, combining 22,000 gallons of water, synchronised music, and lighting effects to dramatic effect – with jets reaching up to 140 metres into the air.
Over the years, the fountain’s playlist has featured a global mix of songs, including Michael Jackson’s 'Thriller', Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman’s 'Time to Say Goodbye', and hits from K-pop icons like EXO.
Emaar founder Mohamed Alabbar described the upgrade as a way to preserve the fountain’s legacy while reimagining it for future generations. He called the show 'a reflection of Dubai’s bold vision' and reaffirmed Emaar’s commitment to delivering creative and world-class public experiences.
