UAE Central Bank Unveils Ultra-Rare 100-Dirham Coin

The Central Bank of the UAE, in collaboration with the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation, has released an ultra-rare 100-dirham silver coin to commemorate the centennial of Emirati poet Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais (1925–2025). With a limited mintage of just 1,000 pieces, the coin pays tribute to one of the most influential literary figures in the UAE and the Gulf region.

Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais is widely recognized for his contributions to Arabic poetry, with his work reflecting themes of identity, heritage, and devotion to the homeland. Since 1987, the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation has been awarding prestigious literary prizes to Arab writers and creatives in recognition of their outstanding achievements.

The coin’s obverse is inscribed with a verse from Al Owais’ poetry, dedicated to his love for the UAE, while the reverse features his portrait. Made of pure silver, each coin weighs 60 grams and is available for purchase exclusively at the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation’s office.
