The site – a hybrid heliport capable of hosting both traditional helicopters and next-generation electric air taxis (eVTOLs) – has received approval from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). Once operational, the hub will provide air taxi access to major destinations like Zayed Port, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Saadiyat Island and the Corniche, significantly cutting down travel time across the capital.
The project is being led by Archer Aviation, a US-based eVTOL developer, in collaboration with Falcon Aviation and Abu Dhabi Aviation. The aim is to have the facility ready for public use by the second half of 2025.
The revamped heliport will include high-tech landing systems, charging infrastructure for electric aircraft, and upgrades to meet strict safety and sustainability standards. The site will also serve as the foundation for the world’s first regulatory framework for hybrid aviation infrastructure – a significant milestone for the industry.
