The walkway is enclosed yet open to light, allowing natural daylight in while keeping heat and noise out. Inside, passersby will find not only a cooler walking experience but also a mix of retail outlets, cafés, and seating areas, creating an inviting environment that can be enjoyed throughout the year – even during the hottest months.
This marks the first step in a broader vision. According to Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport, the project is part of a larger push to incorporate more climate-controlled features into public spaces. As the capital continues to experiment with heat-resistant infrastructure, the idea of fully air-conditioned streets no longer seems out of reach.
