Dubai Issues New Law Regulating Use of Official Emblems

Dubai has introduced a new law governing the use of its official emblems, ensuring they are reserved exclusively for authorised government purposes. Issued by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, the law strictly prohibits the commercial use of both the Dubai Government logo and the Emirate of Dubai emblem.

Under the new regulations, the emirate’s emblem may only appear in specific locations, documents, and events with prior authorisation, while the Dubai Government logo is limited to official government properties, records, and digital platforms. The law explicitly bans their use in advertising, product branding, or promotional activities, with severe penalties for violations, including fines of up to Dhs500,000 or imprisonment for up to five years.

The updated emblems, introduced in 2024, incorporate symbols reflecting Dubai’s heritage and vision, including the falcon for ambition, the dhow for trade, the palm tree for hospitality, and the national flag as a representation of security. The General Secretariat of the Executive Council will release a detailed manual outlining further guidelines on proper usage.
