Satwa Gets a Vibrant Makeover with Community at Its Core

The project introduces walkable routes, public squares, and green spaces, creating inviting areas for community gatherings, cultural events, and street markets. With a minimalist design approach and sustainable materials, E+A Studio balanced contemporary urban elements with Satwa’s dynamic, lived-in charm.

Key interventions include modular seating, interactive wayfinding graphics, and subtle lighting installations that blend seamlessly into the streetscape. New pocket parks and shaded gathering spots now offer places for residents to connect and unwind, while previously neglected spaces have been transformed into functional, people-friendly environments. The project also preserves and protects gardens planted by long-term residents, reinforcing the community-first approach.

More than just an upgrade, the revitalization ensures Satwa remains a cultural hub, known for its mix of affordable eateries, diverse expat communities, and street-side commerce. A new stage for street performances and pop-up markets celebrates Satwa’s creative pulse, particularly embracing the area’s Filipino community, often calling it 'Mini-Manila.'

Rather than a sweeping redevelopment, the project focused on elevating what makes Satva special. The design interventions enhance livability without disrupting the neighbourhood’s organic rhythm, making it more walkable, accessible, and community-driven. With this sensitive, resident-focused approach, Satwa’s transformation stands as a model for urban renewal that respects heritage while embracing smart, people-first design.
