Dubai Sees Record-Breaking 18.72 Million Visitors in 2024

Dubai’s tourism sector has reached a new milestone, welcoming 18.72 million international overnight visitors in 2024 – a 9% increase from the previous record set in 2023, according to the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism.

The surge in arrivals highlights the emirate’s continued appeal as a global destination, with more visitors choosing to stay rather than just transit through Dubai International Airport. Hotel occupancy rates also reflected this upward trend, rising to 78.2%, while the total number of hotel rooms increased to 154,016 to accommodate the growing demand.

Key markets driving this growth included Northeast and Southeast Asia, which saw a 24% rise in visitors, followed by Africa (+20%) and CIS and Eastern Europe (+16%). Dubai’s expanding hospitality sector played a crucial role, with new luxury openings such as One&Only One Za’abeel, The Lana Dorchester Collection, and SIRO One Za’abeel contributing to the city’s appeal. The total number of occupied room nights climbed to 43.03 million, reflecting sustained interest from global travelers.

Dubai’s tourism success is no coincidence, with targeted marketing campaigns playing a significant role in attracting international visitors. High-profile advertising efforts in India and South Korea, collaborations with global influencers like MrBeast, and strategic positioning as a winter escape have all reinforced the emirate’s status as a top travel destination. Additionally, Dubai’s competitive hotel rates – averaging Dhs538 per night, lower than Paris, New York, and London – continue to offer strong value for travelers.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, credited the record-breaking tourism numbers to Dubai’s visionary leadership and collaboration between the public and private sectors. He emphasized that strategic innovation, infrastructure development, and market diversification would continue to drive growth, solidifying Dubai’s reputation as a global tourism powerhouse.
