Dubai Unveils New Rail Bus Project at World Governments Summit

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced the Dubai Rail Bus, a futuristic public transport system designed to be cost-effective and environmentally friendly. The prototype was showcased at the World Governments Summit 2025, giving visitors a first look at the innovative new mode of urban transport.

With a capacity of 40 passengers per vehicle and an operational speed of 100 km/h, the Rail Bus is set to enhance connectivity across the city while promoting sustainability.

The RTA has partnered with American start-up RAIL BUS Inc., which specializes in solar-powered transport solutions. The Rail Bus system will feature vehicles constructed using 3D-printed materials, designed for aerodynamics and efficiency. Solar panels will cover the tracks, ensuring a clean energy supply and reducing overall operational costs. The project aligns with Dubai’s ambitious sustainability goals, including the UAE Net Zero Strategy 2050 and Dubai’s vision to have 25% of all trips autonomous by 2030.

Over the next two years, the RTA will conduct technical studies to determine the most suitable locations for pilot operations. Officials estimate that the cost of implementing the Rail Bus system will be 20–30% lower than traditional transport networks, making it an attractive alternative for urban mobility. The project also aims to improve first and last-mile connectivity, integrating seamlessly with Dubai’s existing public transport network.
