The expansion extends beyond the aircraft, with Emirates’ lounges at Dubai International Airport now offering exclusive vegan options. Highlights include crispy soya and pea protein pops, turmeric-spiced kofta in coconut gravy, and the Emirates Green Burger – a soya and flax seed patty served with signature sauce and pickled cucumbers. The introduction of individual vegan milk servings in Economy and Premium Economy further enhances the plant-based experience, catering to more than 30,000 customers per month.
A key component of this initiative is Emirates’ partnership with Bustanica, the world’s largest hydroponic vertical farm, which supplies fresh, pesticide-free leafy greens directly to the airline’s catering facilities. Additionally, Emirates’ chefs have developed innovative ingredients such as a plant-based egg substitute made from legumes, designed to replicate traditional textures and flavors in dishes like spicy shakshuka.
Vegan meals can be pre-ordered on all Emirates flights up to 24 hours before departure, but on select high-demand routes, they are also available as part of the main menu. Having served plant-based meals since the 1990s, Emirates continues to refine its offerings, ensuring that passengers across all classes can enjoy gourmet, thoughtfully crafted vegan dishes that meet the evolving preferences of modern travelers.
