Abu Dhabi’s BAPS Hindu Mandir Welcomes 2.2 Million Visitors in Its First Year

Abu Dhabi’s BAPS Hindu Mandir, the UAE’s first hand-carved stone and marble Hindu temple, has drawn an astonishing 2.2 million visitors in just one year since its grand opening in February 2024. To mark the milestone, more than 10,000 devotees gathered before dawn on Sunday, taking part in a day-long celebration filled with prayers, music, and dance.

Built over five years at a cost of Dhs350 million, the temple is an architectural masterpiece, crafted by 2,000 sculptors who intricately carved its sandstone and marble facade with depictions of ancient Indian scriptures. Beyond its visual grandeur, it has quickly become a symbol of cultural harmony, welcoming visitors of all faiths and backgrounds.

Sunday’s celebrations included prayers for Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, honouring his vision of fostering tolerance and unity. As the sun set, traditional Indian music and dance performances brought the temple’s vibrant atmosphere to life, reflecting its growing significance as a spiritual and cultural landmark.

Since its opening, the BAPS Hindu Mandir has emerged not just as a place of worship but as a cultural bridge, bringing together people from across the UAE and beyond. Its remarkable first year signals a bright future as a landmark of spiritual devotion and global harmony in the region.
