The 3,100-square-metre DXV facility, approved by the General Civil Aviation Authority, will serve as a hub for Dubai’s aerial taxi network. The station is designed to handle 42,000 landings annually and accommodate up to 170,000 passengers. In addition to DXV, three more vertiports will be developed in phase one at key locations, including Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah, creating a fast and seamless connection across the city.
The flying taxis, manufactured by JOBY Aviation, will carry up to four passengers and a pilot, reaching speeds of 200 miles per hour. These eco-friendly aircraft are expected to reduce travel times significantly – a trip from DXB to Palm Jumeirah, which typically takes 45 minutes by car, will be completed in just 12 minutes. The service will integrate with Dubai’s public transport network, offering passengers a smooth transition to other modes of travel, such as metro, e-scooters, and bicycles.
Designed to operate efficiently in dense urban environments, the vertiport allows vertical take-offs and landings, eliminating the need for traditional runways. Boarding will be quick, with minimal security checks, ensuring an effortless experience. Pricing is expected to align with Uber Black services, and bookings will be available through the Uber app.
