UAE Passes New Law to Support Arts and Creativity

The UAE has taken a bold step toward transforming its creative industries with a new federal law aimed at supporting artistic institutions and fostering cultural growth.

Under the new framework, individuals and organisations – both domestic and international – can now set up private museums, art exhibitions, and theatre productions with streamlined approvals. The law covers a wide spectrum of creative fields, including visual and performing arts, literature, music, and film, encouraging diverse expressions of culture.

To further incentivise creativity, the law offers significant benefits. Cultural institutions can accept donations, sponsorships, and grants, with corporate tax exemptions and customs relief for artworks imported for exhibitions. These measures aim to make art more accessible while promoting international collaboration.

Beyond funding and logistics, the law simplifies licensing for creative institutions, allowing them to organise events, workshops, and even virtual exhibitions. Local authorities and the Ministry of Culture will oversee these processes to ensure transparency and efficiency.

In addition to promoting growth, the legislation sets clear ethical boundaries, banning unlicensed activities and prohibiting content that fosters hate or division.
