Dr.Mohammed Hamad Al Kuwaiti, chairman of the UAE Cybersecurity Council, shared that the nation’s strategic importance and reputation in the financial sector require advanced resilience and partnerships, which continue to protect vital infrastructure even amid recent regional challenges.
Speaking at Gitex Global 2024, Dr. Al Kuwaiti noted that robust cybersecurity measures shield the UAE from three main threats: cybercrime (like fraud and scams),cyberterrorism (disinformation aimed at influencing public opinion), and cyberwarfare (targeting essential sectors like healthcare and energy). He emphasized the UAE’s commitment to proactive measures, global collaboration, and robust deterrence to safeguard both public and private sectors.
The UAE’s ongoing advancements include an updated cybersecurity strategy and enhanced standards for IoT and cloud-first policy, aimed at staying ahead of evolving threats. Dr. Al Kuwaiti also championed the idea of a ‘Cyber GenevaConvention’ — a global pact to unite efforts against cyber threats — signifying the UAE’s role as a leader in shaping a secure digital future for all.
